Just One Question

Kenneth C. Kelly, Managing Principal, Strativia Software LLC, Mitcheville, Md.

Q: What is your "secret" to running a successful meeting?

A: My goal is to keep meetings short by focusing on no more than three key topics, and by meeting with the right people. Many meeting organizers believe it's important to invite the entire group to a meeting that only relates to a handful of people. This is not a good thing. What these organizers will find is that the meeting will be dominated by those most affected by the topic areas. Other attendees will sit quietly wishing they were back at their desks. To avoid this, meeting organizers should make a list of what they need to get accomplished, the key stakeholders, and the timeline. This will keep the meeting short, but productive.
